Chiropractic Care and You
A Chiropractor's Perspective
During my 16 plus years as a chiropractor I am frequently asked by our practice family members what is the best way to get the most out of their chiropractic care. Many times they come to me with concerns about things they have heard from other people; some who have had a great response to chiropractic treatment and others whose experience was, well, not so good.
Having had the opportunity to sit on the other side of the chiropractor's desk before beginning my career in this field has given me some perspective I typically pass on when such questions are posed. First and foremost I think it is important for you to recognize that while choiropractic is a science; based on solid principles of biology, chemistry, anatomy, neurology, and biomechanics; it is also an art. The fact that there is an art to how chiropractic and adjusting techniques are applied is the reason that there can be such discrepancies in the effect chiropractic therapy has on people.
Knowing this, however, also means that just because a person had a bad experience or didn't get the outcome they had hoped for doesn't mean their problems are beyond the scope of disorders that still might benefit from a slightly different chiropractic approach. I can think of hundreds of examples of people I have had the chance to care for who were no better, or in some cases worse after having been treated by another doctor of chiropractic or physical medicine. While I can sympathize with the frustration you feel from not getting the results you wanted immediately, I beleive more than anything when this occurs it doesn't mean give up on the type of treatment; but rather emphasizes the need for a team approach. Which leads me to my next observation.........
When a team approach to treatment is prevalent I can always count on better outcomes. By a team approach I don't necessarily mean a team of doctors and therapist, although sometimes that is the case. The team approach to care I am referring to is the partnership between me, the chiropractor and you, the patient. The more actively involved I can convince you to become in your care the more likely you are to improve physically, and the faster these positive changes tend to take place.
If this type of approach interest you, than perhaps we are the office for you and your health care needs.
